I wanted to start this post as I recently began to read more and more online about upcoming AI developments, incoming AGI and what it would mean for the world. Only time will tell what of today's speculation is correct, but I wanted to use this blog post as a place I can come to and update as developments go on, something to look back on.

What prompted me to make this post today of all days is a tweet that went viral recently by Matt Shumer.
As of today this tweet has over 60M impressions and 82K likes and is one of the first pieces of writing that I think has truly brought what many in the tech sphere have been thinking (worrying) about to a more general population.
Speaking honestly, my initial thoughts upon reading the essay was that of anxiety, despite nothing in the essay truly being new information to me. Perhaps it's just seeing it all summarized by someone else and broadcast to a large audience, but it doesn't feel great to be told (especially as you are graduating university) that life as you know it is about to change, and seemingly not for the positive.
My personal thoughts on AGI as a whole is actually that it will happen, although not as soon as people currently think. I recognize that this may be coming from a place of personal desire, however a comparison I believe in is that of self driving cars. Waymo was self driving in 2009 (public launch 2017), however today in 2026 they are still a small portion of the total roadshare despite being objectively better drivers. I think the last 5% of AGI, and fully automating humans out of the loop could take much longer than expected, but that is just my personal opinion at the moment.
To close, it truly is fascinating being in the middle of such an interesting technology being built. I can only hope it ends up as something we look fondly on, especially given society's current love for maximizing profits at any expense. I hope this new technology if (when?) it arrives truly gives humans more health and abundance rather than furthering the already widening inequalities in society today.
